About Us

Welcome to St Maximus the Confessor Theological Centre, based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. We are dedicated to promoting Orthodox theology and faith through academic study, remaining faithful to the rich traditions of Eastern Christianity. In 2020, we embarked on inspiring discussions about the establishment of an Orthodox theological centre or institute in Canada. The challenges of the pandemic period unexpectedly offered us the chance to lay a strong foundation for this vision. By 2021, we launched our inaugural courses and crafted the chart for what would become our Centre, a vibrant hub of theological learning. In 2022, we submitted our application to the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church to officially establish the Centre, and in 2023, we received the blessing to bring our project to life within the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada.

Our unique approach

Our faculty draws from the rich heritage of the Eastern Church's traditional teachings. Their goal is to unveil and convey, in an academic manner, the theological treasures of Orthodoxy to the world. In the light of the divine Logos, human intellectual experience, spiritual prayer, and the endeavours of the heart become unified. Our catechetical centre aims to emulate the ancient catechetical schools, like the one in Alexandria, expressing the Tradition in contemporary language and thereby addressing today's most pressing intellectual challenges.
